Day 1: May Sri Bala Tripura Sundari fill your home with smiles, innocence and joy.
1వ రోజు: శ్రీ బాలా త్రిపురసుందరీ దేవి మీ ఇంట చిరునవ్వులు, అమాయకత్వం, ఆనందం నింపాలి.
Day 2: May Sri Gayatri Devi bless you with the radiance of wisdom and a pure mind.
2వ రోజు: శ్రీ గాయత్రీ దేవి మీకు జ్ఞాన తేజస్సును, మంచి బుద్ధిని ప్రసాదించాలి.
Day 3: By Sri Annapurna Devi's grace, may your home never lack food or happiness.
3వ రోజు: శ్రీ అన్నపూర్ణా దేవి కృపతో మీ ఇంట అన్నానికి, ఆనందానికి లోటు ఉండకూడదు.

Order as announced for Indrakeeladri, Vijayawada; other temples may vary slightly. In 2027 Navaratri begins on 30 September; Vijayadashami falls on 9 or 10 October depending on the city.
What Navaratri means
Devi Navaratri is nine nights of worship of the Mother, from Ashvayuja Shukla Padyami to Navami. The Devi Mahatmyam tells how Durga rose from the combined radiance of the gods to destroy the demon Mahishasura, fought him for nine days and won on the tenth: Vijayadashami.
In Telugu lands Navaratri means Kanaka Durga's daily alankaram on Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada, Bathukamma songs in Telangana, bommala koluvu doll steps at home, Saraswati puja on Moola nakshatram and Ayudha puja on Mahanavami. Through the nine days we honour the Mother as power, knowledge and prosperity.
Navaratri puja at home
- On Padyami morning clean the house, tie a mango-leaf thoranam at the door and set up the kalasam at the puja place (kalasa sthapana).
- Worship the Mother's idol or photo with turmeric, kumkum and flowers; some homes keep an akhanda deepam burning for all nine days.
- Read the Lalita Sahasranamam, Durga Saptashati or Devi Khadgamala daily; if that is hard, the "Sarvamangala mangalye" shloka is enough.
- Offer naivedyam each day (pulihora, payasam, chakkera pongali, garelu and the like), with the evening lamp and harathi.
- Homes that set up the bommala koluvu invite married women in the evenings and give pasupu-kumkuma and tambulam.
- On Moola nakshatram place books and pens before the Mother for Saraswati puja; it is an auspicious day for a child's aksharabhyasam.
- Some families perform Kumari puja, worshipping a young girl as the Goddess, on Durgashtami or Mahanavami.
- On Mahanavami do Ayudha puja for vehicles, tools and books; on Vijayadashami close the puja (udvasana) and worship the Jammi tree.
Telugu Navaratri traditions
Indrakeeladri Dasara: in Vijayawada Kanaka Durga gives darshan in ten alankarams over ten days; the Saraswati alankaram on Moola nakshatram draws lakhs of devotees. The festival closes on Vijayadashami evening with the Hamsa vahana teppotsavam on the Krishna.
Bathukamma: through the nine days, from Engili Poola Bathukamma to Saddula Bathukamma, the women of Telangana stack tangedu and gunugu flowers into Bathukamma, sing and dance around it, and on the last day float it in water.
Bommala koluvu: an odd number of steps arranged with dolls of gods, avatars and village life is a lovely South Indian home tradition, and a gentle way to tell children the Puranas.

When is Navaratri in 2026?
From Sunday 11 October to Monday 19 October (Mahanavami); Vijayadashami is Tuesday 20 October 2026.
When is Navaratri in 2027?
From 30 September 2027; Vijayadashami falls on 9 or 10 October depending on the city. Check your local panchangam.
When is Saraswati puja (Moola nakshatram) in 2026?
Friday 16 October. At Indrakeeladri the Mother appears as Saraswati Devi that day.
When are Durgashtami and Mahanavami in 2026?
By the Indrakeeladri schedule Durgashtami is 18 October and Mahanavami 19 October. Some panchangams differ by a day because of tithi timings.
Is fasting required during Navaratri?
No. Some keep one meal a day for all nine days, others fast only on Ashtami. Follow what your health allows; a lamp and a shloka offered with devotion are dear to the Mother too.
When is the bommala koluvu set up and taken down?
Usually set up on Padyami (or the evening before); on Vijayadashami evening one doll is symbolically laid to rest and the steps are cleared the next day.
