About the temple
Palakollu's Ksheeraramam is seen from afar by its nine-storeyed gopuram. Shiva drew a stream of milk (ksheera) from the earth with his trident here, the story goes, which gave both the shrine and the town their names.
The legend
The demon Tarakasura wore a Shiva linga at his throat and could not be defeated. Kumaraswamy shattered it with his spear; it fell in five pieces at five places, where the gods installed lingas. These are the Pancharamas.
