Kumararamam (Samarlakota)

Sri Kumara Bhimeswara Swamy and Sri Bala Tripura Sundari

📍 Samarlakota, Andhra Pradesh

About the temple

Named because Kumaraswamy himself installed the linga here. Like Draksharamam it is a two-storeyed temple of the Eastern Chalukya king Bhima, with a limestone linga about 14 feet tall.

The legend

The demon Tarakasura wore a Shiva linga at his throat and could not be defeated. Kumaraswamy shattered it with his spear; it fell in five pieces at five places, where the gods installed lingas. These are the Pancharamas.
