About the temple

Installed by the Moon (Soma). Devotees say the linga turns white by the full moon and brownish-black by the new moon. Unusually, Annapurna's shrine is on the upper floor, above the linga.

The legend

The demon Tarakasura wore a Shiva linga at his throat and could not be defeated. Kumaraswamy shattered it with his spear; it fell in five pieces at five places, where the gods installed lingas. These are the Pancharamas.

What makes it special

  • A linga said to change colour with the phases of the moon
  • The Soma Gundam tank
