About the temple
Here Shiva is worshipped as Vaidyanatha, the divine physician. In Shravan, lakhs of kanwariyas walk here carrying Ganga water from Sultanganj.
The legend
Ravana, carrying a linga from Kailasa to Lanka, was forced to set it down on the way, and it stayed fixed here. Shiva healed Ravana's wounds as a physician, the story goes, hence the name Vaidyanatha.
