About the temple
On the hill, jaggery water (panakam) poured into the mouth of Panakala Narasimha is half accepted and half returned, however much is offered. The Lakshmi Narasimha temple at the foot is known for its towering gopuram.
The legend
The gods offered nectar to calm Narasimha after he slew the demon Namuchi; in the Kali Yuga that offering became panakam, the story goes.
