About the temple
On the Swarnamukhi river, Srikalahasti is the Vayu (air) linga among the Pancha Bhuta lingas; a lamp in the windless sanctum is said to flicker constantly. It is famous across India for Rahu–Ketu dosha pujas.
The legend
A spider (sri), a snake (kala) and an elephant (hasti) worshipped Shiva here and won liberation, hence the name. The hunter Kannappa, who offered his own eyes, belongs to this shrine.
