About the temple
Birthplace of Andal (Goda Devi), who composed the Tiruppavai. The tall Rajagopuram here is the emblem of the Tamil Nadu government, and the temple is the heart of Tiruppavai recitation in Dhanurmasam.
The legend
Goda, found as a baby in Periyalvar's tulasi garden, would wear the garland meant for the Lord before it was offered. 'She who gave the garland she had worn' finally merged with Ranganatha at Srirangam.
