About the temple
Nine Narasimha shrines in the Nallamala hills, in Lower and Upper Ahobilam and deep in the forest. Revered as the place where Hiranyakashipu was slain, it is a Divya Desam and home of the Ahobila Mutt.
The legend
The Ugra Stambham here is said to be the pillar from which Narasimha burst forth; seeing him, the gods cried 'Aho balam!' (what strength!), hence Ahobilam.
